Dekstop software do not support all resolutions and is also very primitive etc. Wireless connection generate grainy picture.
It's cheap but it is also total disappointment. This product is entirely out of date.
Do not buy this product. Camera do not support outgoing mail authentication which means that very likely you will not be able to use your email nor open email on any other well known email providers such as gmail, yahoo, gmx etc.Email alert could be very useful as this way you could be informed once motion is detected in the room.
There is no motion trigger to start uploading pictures to external server (FTP). Camera constantly uploading pictures to remote server which generate unnecessary traffic.
Low light will couse bad image quality or even you will not see anything. Let's surf further find better buy.
The camera works great.once you get it up and running which can be a challenge. If you are tech savvy and smart enough to seek out and find information outside of the included software and instruction manual you should be OK with setting this thing up. Why.
It's just plain terrible. It seems that there are some steps that must be taken with the camera setup in order to make it work in wireless mode that are not in the instruction manual. My first issue is the installation and configuration software.
Well after I found a blog on the internet written by someone else who bought the same camera it all became clear. If you use it and follow the steps in the instructions to the letter like I did, you'll spend an entire day fighting with it (as I did) and you'll get nowhere. Tech support is terrible because they'll just tell you to keep doing the same things the instructions tell you do and that gets you nowhere.
Once I found that out and employed those steps the camera worked flawlessly and I was able to view it easily over the internet. If you are someone who just wants it to work when you plug it in, better skip this camera and find something else.
Right now I am using EVOCAM to broadcast a public stream and I linked the AIRLINK using the network camera feature of EVOCAM.My goal is to eventually make the camera computer-less and have it broadcast a public stream directly. Also it is not clear in the manual but you do have to physically connect your computer to your router and the camera to the router to get started (you can go wireless once it is set up).For Mac users using and Airport Basestation. The included software CD that came with this camera was pretty much useless as the 'wizard software' could not find the camera. pointed at the beach or something). Now the router will always assign the Airlink Camera the IP of 10.0.1.2 and nothing else. This camera would make a great security camera, scenic webcam (i.e.
Now turn over your camera and look for the MAC address on the sticker underneath near the serial number. Click on 'Logs and statistics' and then on 'DHCP clients'. Find the MAC address in the DHCP client list that matches and bingo you have the IP address that your router assigned to this device. Note unless you reserve this IP number using your airport software, this number will change from time to time (if you internet service provider uses dynamic DNS which Comcast does) and you will have to repeat this process to find the IP again (annoying). First of all, I have a MAC but I do run windows XP from time to time using VMfusion. You now no longer need the ethernet cable and can run the camera using WIFI.As I said before your airport will assign a new IP for the camera once the DHCP lease is up but you can prevent this from happening. If you want the local IP for the camera to always be 10.0.1.2 for example Go to Airport Utility again-->internet-->DHCP-->DHCP Reservations and click + to add.I set mine up by the MAC address of the camera (on the sticker remember).
Also no other device will ever be assigned that number.I run the camera via EvoCam as I cannot figure out yet how to tinker with the camera's built in IP (192.168.1.240) to make the camera viewable to the outside world (i.e. outside my network). The IP my router assigned this camera was 10.0.1.2 Type this in your address bar in your web browser (I use Safari) and your will get the Airlink 101 web configuration page. Go to Airport utilities (it is in your system preferences) and click on advanced. I could then used it as a security camera when I am away without leaving my computer on the whole time. The image quality of this camera is good but not great.
More on this later. For example. You can use this to now configure your camera how you want it and to enter the details regarding your wireless network so the camera can connect on its own. Once you have the camera in WIFI mode, the video will be choppy but serves its purpose as a simple webcam. Don't expect it to perform any where near as well as the built in i-sight camera that is standard on all MACs.Also this camera does not have night vision, no pan/tilt and no autofocus.Hope this saves some of you a couple of hours of aggravation.
This camera works fine, but took quite a lot of effort to setup. Documentation is poor, tech support (in India) was useless.
I purchased an Airlink 101 Spycam747w through Amazon.com about a month ago. I am now thinking of buying the AIC250w as a second monitoring camera for the rest of the barn. Set up was simple with straight forward directions that even a computer illiterate person like me could understand. The software sold with every Airlink camera makes viewing the camera shots from your computer simple and easy also.
Camera was purchased to use as a barn monitor for our pregnant goats. For instance the IE software allows setting and panning to 8 pre-set locations whereas the UL software only allows you to scan the pre-sets configured on IE or move the camera by small degrees independently. That camera is no longer listed on Amazon but I wanted to place a review here.
My ONLY complaint is that the software that allows you access to the camera through internet explorer (IP address) gives you much better camera movement options than the Airlink 101 UL view software. It has worked GREAT. The camera is located in a metal roof, insulated barn about 250-300 ft from the back of the house and through some trees, the router is located in the living room in the front of the house, so add another 30 feet through walls and yet I have had little to no problem maintaining a constant connection.
I love the full screen mode in the UL software, but would like to be able to move to my pre-sets without going into IE. Inexpensive but NOT cheap.
